Bono Regional Minister calls for insurance package for poultry farmers

The Bono Regional Minister Justina Owusu Banahene has suggested an insurance package to cushion poultry farmers from the viral infection outbreak of birds or any disaster that befalls them.

According to her, poultry farmers were running at a loss due to such outbreaks because of a lack of insurance cover for such emergencies.

She made the suggestion when her entourage visited Ansomana farms after a rainstorm destroyed the farm killing about 6,000 birds.

She noted that it has come to her notice that most insurance companies are reluctant to provide insurance cover for poultry farmers due to the gravity of their loss.

“I will ensure that together with other regional ministers in the country, we will push for insurance cover for poultry farmers since they are also a pivot to the socio-economic development of the country,” she said.

Justina Owusu Banahene in furtherance underscored the need for an insurance policy, indicating that she would continue to engage insurance companies to try and find a solution to the issue.

She encouraged poultry farmers to get enrolled in insurance policies should the issue be addressed.
