A section of youth at Breman Asikuma in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District of Central Region on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 demonstrated against the Ghana National Fire Service.

The protest was to oppose the region's demand for the only fire tender from the District, which according to protestors, cannot be released. They explained that the Asikuma Odobeng Brakwa District boasts of one fire thunder which has been of great benefit to them especially during dry seasons.

They spoke to soireenews that rampant fire outbreaks upset their cocoa farms during harmattan periods and it takes only the intervention of the fire service personnel to stop the misfortune, therefore, the removal of the fire tender renders them hopeless whenever fire calamity befalls hence their actions.

Lorry tyres, woods and other things were burnt in front of Ghana National Fire Service office in Breman Asikuma as the road from the office was blocked with woods.

They deflated the tyres of the fire thunder to prevent any movement of the vehicle.

Some of the demonstrators speaking to Central Regional Soireenews correspondent, Abusuapanyin Kojo Ahinful, disclosed that a similar instance happened last year during the covid 19 outbreak. They addressed that the Central Regional fire commander ordered officers to employ the fire thunder to supply water to residents of Winneba and its return was a great challenge hence their actions.

They reflected that an ambulance for the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District suffered same fate until president Nana Addo Danquah Akufo - Addo distributed the National Ambulance under the One district One ambulance initiative.

The angry youth have warned the leaders in Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District that if the fire tender is allowed to leave the district, they will make sure to expose them to discipline.

The District Chief Executive in Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District, Honorable Isaac Odoom confirmed he already did not approve of the departure of the fire machine when approached by the National Fire Service so he wonders how all of a sudden, the region wants to get hold of the equipment. He declared support towards the actions of the youth and cautioned that the fire tender is going nowhere.

The Ghana National Fire Service commander in Asikuma Odoben Brakwa was contacted but refused to talk to soireenews on the case.
