Steven Bergwijn has the full support of Tottenham Hotspurs, Jose Mourinho has assured.

The player received online abuse by club fans after his missing chances in their midweek fixture against Liverpool at Anfield.

Spurs suffered their second defeat of the season in the hands of the Champions after Roberto Firmino’s thumping header during injury time to give the Refs 2-1 win over the London club.

Bergwijn in the second half was presented with two opportunities when the Reds were sleeping to put Spurs ahead but squandered them.

The Portuguese manager during his pre-match conference guaranteed the player of the team’s support and urged that whatever affects a player involves the entire squad.

“I don't know what I can do apart from the player knowing that in this club we are all together,” he said. “We lose, we win and we draw all together. He has us and we have him.

Mourinho’s men welcome Brendan Rodger’s Leicester City on Sunday. The Foxes and Spurs are separated by a point on the table after their 2-0 loss to Everton at the King Power Stadium.

The manager provided updates that Gareth Bale is fit to return to the starting lineup having missed the Crystal Palace and Liverpool games due to illness.

“He looks OK. If he's OK again tomorrow then he'll be fine.”

A win for Spurs would enhance their position depending on the results of the Palace-Liverpool game which would be played earlier.

Brendan Rodgers side are looking to improve from their home loss, which affected their chances of going above Spurs.
