Berekum West Ranked 2nd In COVID-19 Vaccination

The Berekum West District Health Directorate in the Bono Region adjudged the second best District in the just ended 5 day National Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign program.

Among the 12 Districts in the Bono Region which undertook the National Covid-19 vaccination campaign after 4 days, Banda District emerges the first district with 80% performance, followed by Berekum West District, Dormaa Municipal, Sunyani West, Sunyani Municipal, Dormaa West, Dormaa East, Wenchi Municipal, and Tain District, Jaman North, Berekum Municipal and Jaman South.
The National Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign which took place in most of the health facilities finally ended on Sunday when most churches allowed their members to participate in the vaccination exercise leading to the majority of Ghanaians getting their jabs to boost the Covid-19 pandemic fight.
Meanwhile, the Bono Regional Health Directorate has cautioned professionals and the general public against bribery in the issuance of the COVID-19 cards.
The Regional Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) coordinator, Mr. Paul Bediako gave this warning on Health Matters on Sunyani-based Ark FM monitored by Soiree News.
His warning was a response to one of the concerns raised by a caller who alleged that some health professionals are taking bribes and issuing cards to unvaccinated individuals in the municipality.
But Mr. Bediako said it was illegal to issue a covid-19 vaccination card to an unvaccinated person and is punishable by law.
According to him, it was unnecessary for an individual to get the card without vaccination since information is kept on the Health Service’s system.
He also added that there is a special team that is responsible for auditing all COVID-19 and its related programs to ensure accountability.
He has therefore stressed that the law will deal mercilessly with persons involved in such activities.
“The laws will not hesitate in dealing with culprits found in the act for it is a criminal act’, he warned.
Mr. Bediako however called on the general public to report all such acts to the directorate for further actions to be taken.
COVID-19 vaccines have been available in Ghana since March 2021 and have since been distributed in phases.
Once a shipment arrives it is distributed based on the Ghana Health Service vaccination plan.
