Tanzanian airport reopens after deadly crash

Northwestern Tanzania's Bukoba airport has reopened after being shut down following a crash that claimed 19 lives.

On Sunday, as the passenger plane tried to touch down at the airport, it crashed into Lake Victoria.

According to a local official, the first passenger plane was scheduled to touch down at the airport on Thursday.

Investigators from the aircraft manufacturer ATR have begun looking into the tragedy. Experts in French civil aviation safety inquiry have also been sent to the nation.

The largest privately owned passenger airline in Tanzania, Precision Air, flew the aircraft. Since 1994, it has been running on the Dar es Salaam–Bukoba route.
