Barcelona have been left ‘furious’ after Ousmane Dembele refused to leave the club for Manchester United, the Daily Mail has reported.

Dembele season loan stalled after the Red Devils failed to let Barcelona include an obligation to buy when the deal ends which would give them the freedom to revive interest in Sancho next season.

Regardless of that, The Spanish club were still looking forward to the player to leave the club for United to free them from his wage but the former Dortmund winger did not harmonise with Barca's decision.

Marca reports that the Catalan club has begun legal proceedings for universal pay cuts after they were hit by the coronavirus pandemic and all club employees including first-team playing squad will take a pay cut.

Barcelona's economic situation has worsened in the months that followed and now there's no option but to apply for another ERTE hence their request to let Dembele opt for a loan to relieve the club of the player’s weekly wage.

“The Catalan club have already presented their accounts, including debts of 488 million euros and losses of 97 million euros,” Marca wrote.

“The club also spent 855 million euros - 192 million euros less than what was initially stated in their budget,” it added.

Dembele so far has no guarantees over playing time under Ronald Koeman and is yet to make an appearance in the 2020/21 Laliga season.
