An educationist and a social commentator, Samuel Kwasi Atta has called for changes in Ghana's educational system as it has been yielding some bad crop of graduates at the end of their studies.

He made the call in an interview with Kwabena Obeng Akrofi on Ark In the Morning monitored by Soiree News Bono Regional Correspondent Nana Ama Asiedu.

His comment comes after President Nana Addo in his 2021 State of the Nation Address declared his intention to help increase the number of tertiary students in the country to about 18% of the country’s population.

However, the educationist is of the view that most students who migrate into tertiary education from the basic level do not acquire the necessary knowledge due to lack of basic material, they study on their own to deploy all means to secure better certificates to further their education.

He said, "as of now, the government has not been able to print textbooks for teaching at the SHS level after one and half years of introducing the new curriculum into the education system."

He stressed that the aforementioned are challenges among others breed bad graduates in the educational system.

He also called on the government to improve the quality and condition of tertiary education in the country.
