Association of Liberal Muslims Ghana Welcomes Mahama's Promise To Reduce Hajj Fares

THE Association of Liberal Muslims Ghana, has expressed its profound gratitude to the former President John Drama Mahama for touching on an issue which is of most importance to Muslims across the entire country.
In a statement signed and issued by the Founder and President of the Association, Mr Umar Harris and copied to Soireenews.com, the Association noted that "As Muslims we all acknowledge the difficulties Muslims go through especially in coughing out 75000 cedis before embarking on the Hajj pilgrimage.
According to the statement, these are difficult times for all Ghanaians and we don't see the reason for which the Hajj board will make Ghanaian pilgrims pay exorbitant hajj fares as compared to our neighbors like Togo, Nigeria, Benin etc. We expect the government of Nana Addo and Alhaji Bawumia to have taken into consideration the economic challenges in the country and work towards reducing the cost of Hajj for Muslims.
"We believe the decision by HE John Dramani Mahama to reduce the cost of Hajj will go a long way to enable a lot of Muslims to be able to perform the Hajj.
"As it stands now our sources within the hajj board revealed that Ghana under-utilised its quota of 6730 allocated by the Saudi government in 2024, while over 6000 pilgrims resorted to the unconventional routes to embark on this year's hajj paying lesser amounts," the statement noted.
According to the statement, "We are optimistic that he will deliver on this promise should the good people of this country give him the mandate.
This statement by the former President is good news for Muslims in Ghana and we shall hold him accountable on this promise if he wins the December 7th elections In-sha- Allah. Our prayers and good wishes are with him.
