MEMBER Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, has stated that annual Nepe Afenorto is the most greatest, peacefully and nicely planned festival in the whole Tongu North District.

The young astute politician maintained that he has been attending many festivals in some recognized traditional areas in the district but the beauty nature for which the organisers planned to organize the various activities marking the Mepe annual Afenorto is very attractive and most colourful.

Honourable Okudzeto-Ablakwa made the commendation when he joined chiefs and people of Mepe Traditional Area on Saturday August 5, 2023 to round up the celebration of this year’s 67th annual Afenorto Festival which was held under the theme; “Together In Peace and Development.”

The Afenorto festival meaning a period of rest at home is the traditional festival of the Chiefs and people of Mepe Traditional area which is celebrated annually to renew the sense of oneness of the people.

It also provides a unique opportunity for reunions with the extended family and friends.

Mr Ablakwa called for the injection of fresh and new ideas into the celebration to the advantage and enhancement of the lives of the people.
The MP added that culture and tradition were not relics of the past, but tools for development so that people can have a better way of living.
The lawmaker for the North Tongu stressed the need for the chiefs and people of Mepe to continue to celebrate this annual festival to let their children celebrate their cultural identity, as "we also press for innovation and transformation.

The MP blasted the current government of the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for mismanagement of the national economy which has brought severe hardship to the people in the country.

He described the NPP under President Akufo-Addo as bad mangers of national economy noting that the next the NDC. government under former President John Dramani Mahama would come to revive the national economy for Ghanaians to make Ghana a good place to stay to do businesses.
"President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia and Minister of Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Addo and other top gurus of the NPP have destroyed the Ghana economy.
...that is why we the NDC would be chasing the NPP out next year so that former President John Dramani Mahama would come to the power to restore the national economy to bring the hope to Ghanaians. When the former President John Dramani Mahama wins the election and come to power, he will work to bring new industries and developments to the North Tongu District and Volta Region as whole," he stated.
He said  the next NDC government under His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is surely to come back to revive the economy and put Ghana back on the right path so that we shall get out our new roads and transform the Volta.

Our aims of bringing developments would not be the verbal developments like the promise President Akufo-Ado made in 2016 to give every constituency one million dollars to facilitate the rapid development of the constituencies, but the NPP led Akufo-Addo administration has woefully failed to deliver.

"Ours are going to be practical and complete development which would be very effective on the grounds to help transform the lives of Ghanaians," the NDC MP reaffirmed.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his campaign in the 2016 general elections, promised Ghanaians that if voted into power, he would roll out a programme that would give every constituency one million dollars to facilitate the rapid development of the constituencies but he failed.
