Armed robbers have relaunched another attack on Ettukrom to Bunso stretch of the Koforidua to Bunso Highway, in the Abuakwa South district.

One lady was shot dead amidst an ongoing robbery on the dawn of Sunday, June 6, 2021,

Close sources indicate that the highway robbers mounted a roadblock at Arboretum Canopy walk Evo Park area, at the dawn of Sunday, to rob commuters at gunpoint. Even though eyewitnesses indicated that it was before 5:00 am, they were not sure of the exact time.

According to him, the robbers must be invisible as the police have not arrested a single person of this gang.

They added that "the trotro driver was pushed out of his car, they searched inside the car and took away all cash on him, the deceased lady also gave them some money and handed over her bag to them, but the robbers were dissatisfied with the amount of money she gave them and they shot her twice in the head and shoulder.

It is unclear the number of vehicles and passengers that were robbed as against that which occurred on Monday, May 24, 2021.

The Akyem Tafo District Police Command recently deployed Police Personnel to mount a barrier on Kukurantumi -Koforidua road as part of measures to clamp down the alarming rate of robbery attacks on road users as well as residents.

The robbers succeeded in robbing a gold dealer and made away with an unknown amount of money and huge quantities of gold. In a space of one month and in less than three weeks, the same area has experienced treacherous robbery attacks.

According to witnesses, the robbers bolted with their vehicle but were given a hot chase by police for while, but the chase was in vain.

Another robbery incident occurred at Akyem Asikam, about a month ago, where some road users and residents suspect the same group of the armed robbery gang that attacked the gold dealer.

Exactly on the dawn of Monday, May 24, 2021, the notorious robbery gang, mounted a roadblock on Koforidua- Kukurantumi highway to rob about 20 vehicles at about 4:30 am. One person was shot in the process and rushed to the hospital which we believe sustained severe injuries and receiving treatment at the hospital.

Two passengers claimed they were robbed to the tune of Ghc40,000 and Ghc4000 respectively during the Kukurantumi incident but no suspect has been arrested since.

The police are still on with investigations and searches to put these lawbreakers to book.
