The driver of the Opel Astra taxi has since disappeared and has not yet reported to the Police so cannot be identified.

A Benz Sprinter travelling from Kumasi to Wa with 20 passengers on Wednesday evening crashed with an Opel Astra taxi killing one person on board the taxi and leaving five others in critical condition.

The Sprinter bearing the registration AS 5354-20 collided with Opel Astra; AS 224-12 carrying 5 passengers from Wenchi to Techiman on the Techiman-Wenchi highway including 40year old Majid Mumin the Sprinter driver. 

Wenchi Divisional Police MTTD Commander, DSP Kofi Amponsah Oduro confirmed to the media that, the head-on collision occurred near a Police Barrier at Nkonsia as a result of a wrongful overtaking by the speeding Benz Sprinter. 

DSP Kofi Amponsah Oduro said the injured persons were rushed to the Wenchi Methodist Hospital for treatment while the body of the deceased identified as Francis Larwer has also been deposited at the same Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

He said the driver of the Opel Astra taxi has since disappeared and has not yet reported to the Police so cannot be identified.

Meanwhile, Kwame Wanaah a relative to the deceased Francis Larwer upon reaching the Police station told the media that his 34-year-old late cousin had visited Wenchi to inspect his ongoing house building project and died in the accident upon his way back to Techiman where he resided leaving behind his pregnant wife and two children.
