Abandoned waste and uncollected heaps of refuse have taken over Koforidua to Kumasi lorry terminal in the Eastern Regional capital.

The situation is causing obstructions to vehicular movement, creating an environmental inconvenience.

The refuse has been left uncollected for many days, leaving the degradable components to degrade at a faster rate facilitated by the daily downpour being recorded in most parts of the capital.

Drivers, food vendors, and shop operators at the lorry terminal are worried the situation is creating non-patronage of food items due to houseflies threatening health and safety in the area.

Heaps of refuse are mostly seen littered and uncollected. Waste containers in collections points, as well as household dust bins, are not emptied frequently.

Poor waste management in the Eastern Regional Capital has been a major concern for residents off late as uncollected wastes continue to mount over weeks before it is cleared.
