Western Region records 378 road accidents in five months; MTTD boss revealed

Western Regional Commander of the Motor Transport Traffic Department (MTTD), Mr Isaac Sorkpor has made known that 378 Road accidents have been recorded from January to May this year according to their statistic, with 58 death chronicled which involves 11 females and 47 males.

Mr Isaac Sorpkar made this call when the Ghana shippers authority in collaboration with the Western Region MTTD organized a sensitization workshop for haulage truck drivers in the region of Ghana.
 
The aim of the program is to sanitize truck drivers on the need for safety on Ghana's roads.

The MTTD commander said most of the haulage truck drivers which are involved in road accidents normally occur at night, therefore there's the need for drivers to take a rest after every four hours of driving on long journeys before they continue.
 
He lamented that using destructive devices such as mobile phones during driving also cause major accidents on our roads and, therefore, cautioned drivers against that act.
