Rhian Brewster

Jurgen Klopp has publicized that it is necessary for Rhian Brewster to continue his development as a professional player in a club willing to offer him much playing time than to wait for first-team opportunities at Anfield which is not possible now.

The 20-year-old has been linked with Sheffield United following the Sun’s report that a bid of £23m has been offered for the English international; £18m plus a further £5m in extras.

Brewster was on loan at Swansea City last season and exhibited promising stats, scoring 11 goals in 22 appearances for the Championship side before joining Liverpool’s pre-season training for the new campaign.

Chris Wilder’s side are yet to snatch a point out of their three Premier League games, a situation which has demanded the need for a striker, a department the manager sees the Liverpool youngster fit to fulfil.

The Reds will include a buyback clause in the player’s contract which will give them the first option to repurchase the forward under certain conditions.

“He couldn't make it here so far but he has made big steps in his development,” said Klopp.

“Rhian was really seriously injured and first we had to make sure he was ready again for all the demands of professional football and he is 100 per cent.
“He played a really good half-season at Swansea, he was really impressive, he came (back) here and scored for us in pre-season and you could see he made big steps.

“If Rhian would be now 25, 26 I would say 'OK, you can stay and work for your chance and then don't say I didn't say you couldn't stay'.

“But it is a different situation when you are younger, (it is important) a player like Rhian in this position upfront makes now the next steps and uses the time he lost during the serious injury – so it is possible a move to another club would make sense.”
