A man was detained after hitting an MP in a church

According to local media, a man who had slapped an MP at church on Sunday was detained by police in eastern Uganda and has since been arrested.

Musa Ecweru, the transport minister, was speaking to the congregation at St. Michael Catholic Church in Amuria when the 39-year-old was struck by him.

"He simply stared at him without responding. Priests and Christians alike were surprised, "The state-owned New Vision newspaper was informed by an unknown source.

The sources state that Mr. Ecweru's bodyguards then overpowered him and turned him over to the local police.
