The Registrar of Takoradi Technical University, Dr. Moses Maclean Abnory, in his address indicated that the statistics available have revealed that, in Ghana in 2021 alone, a high number of 553,065 dissolved marriages were recorded and 405,090 separated marriages.

The Takoradi Technical University has organized a public lecture on Emotional Intelligence to help manage issues that affect some personalities in their daily endeavors

The lecture according to the authorities seeks to provide public discourse on the topic which has a great impact on lives and society.

The lecture also opened up the discussion on the various challenges and issues that individuals encounter in particular and the nation in general. It is also to make recommendations for research, practice, and policy strands.

The Registrar of Takoradi Technical University, Dr. Moses Maclean Abnory, in his address indicated that statistics available have revealed that, in Ghana in 2021 alone, a high number of 553,065 dissolved marriages were recorded and 405,090 separated marriages.

He said, the country, also recorded 650,000 severe mental disorders in 2020 and intellectual emotional intelligence-related crimes. Again, "over 10,000 dementia cases were recorded in last year, he siad.

According to him, falling in students' academic performances, spousal abuse, killings, and parents and guardians' assaults on children and wards are in ascendency due to emotional intelligence.

Dr. Abnory stressed that the records call for a deeper discussion and interrogation of the issues at both the individual institutional and organizational levels as well as at the national level.

The Vice Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University, Rev. Professor John Frank Eshun, in an address said, the increasing social, family and economic pressure has a lot of impact on people and employees' attitudes and performance in our workplace. 

He added that it is therefore vital to acquire some form of emotional intelligence to help people get along better and become more empathetic and compassionate with their subordinates, colleagues, and superiors to sustain a peaceful work environment.

Prof. Bernard Kumi Boateng, an Associate Professor in Geomatic Engineering at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), the chairman for the occasion in his remarks urged the lecturers and teachers to be mindful of how they relate to their students, adding that they should cultivate the habits of seeing the students as their clients and understand that the students go through a lot of stress and they must be helped through the daily contacts with the students.
