The Chairperson for the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Jean Adukwei Mensa has hinted that seven lives were lost during the 2020 general election held in Ghana.

Speaking at High-Level Parliamentary Seminar on Two Decades of Democratic Elections in Economic of West Africa State (ECOWAS) on the Theme, "Achievement, Challenges and Way Forward of ECOWAS" held in Winneba, she added that Elections violence, Misunderstanding and Poor Security at the various Electoral Centers caused the mayhem.

Addressing the ECOWAS members, the Electoral Commissioner said, the 2020 general election was the most successful Elections conducted in the Country despite the loss of seven lives.

She denied that the death incident did not occur at the polling centres and the misfortune cannot be attributed as a result of EC staff misconduct yet called on the Ghanaian populace and stakeholders to exercise patience for the security agencies will soon share their findings and recommendation for future learning.

Mad Jean Mensa hinted that the cost of the 2020 general election was reduced by 41% as compared to 2016 notwithstanding inflation and price hike and they incurred additional costs owing to the COVID 19 protocols deployed throughout the elections.

She explained that there was a cut-down cost per voter from US$13.00 in 2016 to US$7.70 at a time when the cost of Elections is rising the world over, saving the government of Ghana a formidable sum of US$90 million.

According to her, these were no easy feats. It took the Herculean effort of their entire team and the helping hand of the Almighty God to accomplish them.
