Ramon Planes has insisted that Barcelona is not in a position to part ways with their captain, Lionel Messi.

The sporting director of the club has quenched off interested clubs approach saying that the club is not ready to grant Lionel Messi his demand.

Messi handed a transfer request on Tuesday afternoon to the Catalan club to express how determined he is to leave the Blaugranas, 11 days after the historic dishonor by Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.

“This is indeed a very important story, but our idea at the club is still to build a new winning cycle around the best player in the world,” he said at the official unveiling of the new signing of Francisco Trincao on Wednesday.

“We are not contemplating any kind of departure because what we want is for Messi to stay.

“We only have enormous respect for Leo Messi. Barça and Leo are like a marriage, where both have given so much to each other, and have brought so much joy to the fans.

“I think the future is positive. I am an optimist. We need experienced players, like Leo Messi, as well as players for the team’s future.

“We are putting every effort into ensuring that the relationship between Barça and Messi will continue. We are working internally to convince Leo”.

Manchester City, Inter Milan and Paris Saint Germain are the main teams linked to the 33-year old Argentine.
