The Argentine has demanded to leave the Catalan club and has been linked to top clubs across Europe including the two Manchester teams.

Lionel Messi has handed a transfer request to leave Barcelona.

The forward earlier revealed to Ronald Koeman that he has doubts concerning his future at the Nou camp following his sides 8-2 humiliation by Bayern in the Champions League quarter-finals 11 days ago.

The Associated Press has reported that the Argentine has sent a document expressing his desire to leave the Catalan club.

This intensifies how determined the 33-year old wants to leave the club regardless of the promise by new coach, Ronald Koeman that his new team will be built around him.

Manchester City and United have all been strongly linked with the World’s most expensive player who has €700m as a release clause in his current contract, which runs out in 2021.

Messi has won a record six Ballon d'Or awards during his time at Barcelona as the top player in the world and has helped the club win 10 Spanish league titles and four Champions League crowns.

The player's strength of mind to quit Barcelona means the club would be required to decrease his price value for suitors or gain nothing when the stays for the upcoming season and become a free agent next year.
