Ghanaian highlife artiste, Kuami Eugene has responded to critics who bashed Sonnie Badu for congratulating him on his Artiste of the Year award at the 21st edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

According to Kuami Eugene, the critics are out of place for going after Sonnie Badu stating that people should be allowed to congratulate each other whether they are church people or not.

“All I will say is that we should make room for everybody to shine, whether you are a church person or not, so far as you are human. That is what religion is all about. The ability to accept people regardless of where they are coming from. So, I’d say, let’s open up,” he said.

Sonnie Badu, the life coach and gospel musician based in the United Kingdom, had earlier sent uplifting words to Kuami Eugene on his social media page for his win at the VGMA.

"Congratulations my son, @kuamieeugene remember the secret is humility, hard work, and prayer… much love… it's purple," he said.

Critics were quick to take offense in his words, chief amongst them being Ghanaian Entertainment pundit, Kwame OB Nartey of Vision 1 F. He especially criticized Sonnie Badu for calling Kuami Eugene "son" and asked why Sonnie Badu would regard Kuami Eugene as his "son" even though they have nothing to do with each other. OB Nartey quizzed about the other sons in the industry that he has not taken care of.

"Good morning Sofo Badu, Go and look for your sons who are struggling in the Gospel industry and stop this unnecessary fame attachment. Noor Congratulations my son Kwame Eugene laughable. This “Don King” spirit won’t help you, the boys who served you are still waiting for you to give them the necessary push and features you promised them."

"The likes of Max Praise, Yohan, Tino Manford, Royal Chris, Kofi Perprah. You left the Gospel personalities who made us proud to go and claim fathership. What should Baba Sadiq call Kwame Eugene?” he jabbed.

His view was immediately echoed by Celestine Donkor, who stated that it would be nice of Sonnie Badu to pay more attention to gospel folks while speaking with MzGee in an interview on TV3.

“It is just nice; morally right, and socially nice to throw your weight behind colleagues who are excelling. As a legend, as he is, it is so highly expected of him. I call this ‘nhwehwe animu’. It’s really with the gospel folks,” she stated.

Sonnie Badu, as always, calmly ignored the pundits on the premise that he does not respond to "ignorant fools" as they just serve to waste his precious time.

” If I was an old old old man, this is the advice grandPa Badu will give to his grandchildren for September, it is pretty simple … DO not respond to ignorant fools who want attention, they will waste your time … Jesus did it and it worked for him … ITS PURPLE ??”, Sonnie said in response to OB Nartey's claims.
