COVID-19 may have stopped the world, but life is starting to resume at a rapid pace, and as a result, Real Madrid are pressing on with redevelopment work at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Inspired by the technology used at Tottenham Hotspur's new home, a retractable pitch will be used and work has now started on the greenhouse facility where the pitch will be stored.

Machinery raises the pitch from below ground, with a large number of seats in the lower tiers at the ground having to be replaced to make room for this technology to work.

A cave of 30 meters deep was dug and the pitch will be stored there when the stadium isn't being used for matches.

Whilst Spurs were forced to implement something like this in order to store the pitch used for NFL matches, for Los Blancos it is more a matter of convenience and to avoid the constant need for ground preparation between fixtures.

As MARCA explained earlier in 2020, the club has taken full advantage of the break-in fixtures to install what could have been a problematic structure at the stadium.

There is renewed hope that the completion date for the summer of 2022 is still very achievable, and Los Merengues hope once complete they can use their facilities 300 days a year.
