Mauricio Pochettino has emerged as the potential candidate for the Newcastle job according to Sky Sports.

The former Spurs manager is favorite on the list alongside Rafa Benitez on who to take over Newcastle under new ownership.

The Premier League club when permitted by the FA to take over from Mike Ashley by PCP Capital Partners will hire the services of the former Tottenham Hotspur manager although no decision has been agreed on the £300m transaction yet.

The Argentine will succeed Steve Bruce whose contract is likely to be terminated at the end of the current season.

An amount of £19m a year is tagged to the managerial role of the club and per reports, Pochettino is interested in the deal, as he is keen on returning to the Premier League.

Newcastle's prospective owners have been impressed by the rebuilding project carried out by Pochettino during his five-year tenure at Spurs, taking them to the Champions League final in 2019.

If Pochettino’s deal fails to materialize, Benitez would be brought in to handle the Magpies. The former Liverpool manager is the head coach of Dalian Yifang in the Chinese Super League and a lucrative deal proposed will see him back in the Premier League to finish where he left at the St. James.

If the Premier League ratify the deal, the prospective buyers are believed to invest heavily in the club by signing improved players to compete with the top clubs for honors in the Premier League.
