Gini Wijnaldum has rejected a contract extension at Liverpool according to the Daily Express.

The Liverpool midfielder’s current agreement runs out next year and has already been linked to Barcelona who are willing to offer £15m for the services of the Dutchman.

Ronald Koeman is a strong admirer of the 29-year old and has a good working relationship with the former Newcastle United player having managed him in the Holland National team before his Barcelona's managerial appointment after the sack of Quique Setien in August.

Wijnaldum was in the view of extending his contract to continue playing at Anfield but the arrival of Thiago Alcantara seems to have led to a change of mind.

The versatile number 6 was of quick impact in the Reds 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge, completing 75 passes, more than what any Chelsea player managed in the entire match.

Thiago’s successful passes were also the most by a player who played a maximum of 45 minutes according to the full passing data which is available for the Premier League.
