The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has disclosed the real inspiration that motivated former President John Dramani Mahama to chose a female running mate in the person of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.

According to him, the selection was influenced by the traditional system of rule around the authority of Kings and Queen mothers before colonialism. The role of queen mothers in the local government through their soothing counseling and concern for humans wielded social power and influence of the people.

Asiedu Nketiah explained that, whenever the NDC flagbearer is present at any palace throughout his tour and observes how queen mothers rule alongside chiefs and Kings, he deliberates on the needs of inhabitants have been obstructed through the neglect of women in decision making at the top level.

“Former President John Mahama convinced the executives of the party with his decision to make a woman his running mate reflecting on how Kings and Queen mothers used to rule the nation before the foreign government was adopted.

“Four years after his loss, every palace he visited was an opportunity to learn much about traditional supremacy therefore he suggested that one of the progressive lack of the nation is because we have neglected our own culture for the westerners.

“He alerted us on the need to import ours, if not the entire practice, at least some key rudiments to suit today's approach. One is that whenever he visits the palace, there is always a Queen-mother beside the King or chief.

"In addition, when cases get tough at the palace, the jury always make reference to seeking counseling from an anonymous old woman (abrewa), which is far different from our days. He (John Mahama) believes the inclusion of these formats will help to rebuild our nation in wisdom,” the General Secretary said.

He enlightened that women have the greater number to influence the polls on December 7, 2020, hence the need to choose their representative by the side of the president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama to provide hope.

The General Secretary uttered that politicians have not been fair to the entire female race, amplifying that; human equality must be demonstrated across every area of governance to empower the feminine gender to rise to the challenge of inspiring their life through education and trade.

“The system of rule by the Whiteman is democracy and its foundation lies in the decision of the majority. Ghanaian women exceed the number of men, which gives them a major influence on the activities of the nation, yet we are always interested in the ideas of men.

“Although some believe that a Christian and Muslim can balance the equation of progress whiles some have the notion that an Asante and a Northerner is key yet we believe in the supernatural balance ordained by God, that is the Man and Woman equality,” he added.
