Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah, Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee has charged the African Union to strip off the pending role of South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa as the Chairperson of the Union for 2020.

The Ghanaian Member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region made the comment through his facebook platform saying the African Union due to the xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals should also relocate the Pan-African Parliament from Midrand.

Mr. Okudzeto explained the acts by some South African nationals on their neighboring African citizens as a ’painful’ betrayal of the peace and harmony between Africans.

“We cannot accept the unending waves of xenophobic attacks in South Africa which is but a painful betrayal of the African solidarity against apartheid”.

“Perhaps it is time to relocate the Pan-African Parliament to another country. SA has lost every moral justification to keep it, “he said.

The African Union has issued a statement condemning the “despicable act” of violence “in the strongest terms” whiles South African president on Tuesday has also judged the act as ‘abominable”.

He will take over the role of the African Union chairperson from Egyptian President Fattah el-Sisi, who is AU chair for 2019.

“I condemn the violence that has been spreading around a number of our provinces in the strongest terms. I’m convening the ministers in the security cluster today to make sure that we keep a close eye on these acts of wanton violence and find ways of stopping them,” Cyril Ramaphosa said.
