Dissatisfaction in parliament especially the majority for approving the Electronic transaction Levy (e-levy) bill
Mobile money agents in Bonsu Nkwanta, Juaboso District in the western north region have expressed their dissatisfaction in parliament especially the majority for approving the Electronic transaction Levy (e-levy) bill
The bill which was approved on Tuesday 29th March 2022 saw 137 majority members voting in favor of it with the minority walking out of parliament
According to the mobile money agents, about 40% of their customers have threatened to stop using mobile money with some already withdrawing their monies from their accounts
They said this is because there wasn't much education on the e-levy so that their customers can understand why they should be taxed
most of the customers only think any little money they send, will be taxed and when withdrawing too, they will be taxed which is too much for them
The mobile money agents concluded by pleading with the government to provide adequate education on the e-levy for everybody to understand before passing it as law else they will lose about 40% to 50% of their customers which is likely to bring their business down
