The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Dormaa West District in the Bono Region, Mr... Francis Kwadwo Opong has called on the officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in the various land and sea borders to put in place human-centered and special measures for the protection of vulnerable individuals, including children, women who always ply the land and sea borders to the country.

He, therefore, stressed that the migrants must be treated with dignity and respect for human rights.
Mincing no words, the DCE urged them to apply the law to some recalcitrant people who may want to fly by the law of the land.

Mr. Opong made the call when he toured the various land borders in the Dormaa West District after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced the opening of the land and sea borders in the country after the two years closure of the borders in the wake of the world deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The borders they toured include Yaakrom Frimpongkrom, and Y'amediagoro all fall within the Dormaa West District.
The DCE embarked on the tour
together with the Dormaa West District Security Council (DISEC) comprising the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Customs Division, BlN, and the Health directorate.
The DCE was also accompanied by some staff of the assembly led by the Coordinating Director, Mr. Iddrisu Mahama.
The purpose of the tour was for the DCE to have first-hand information on the borders after the president announced the opening.
Thus, the to and fro of people who ply the borders and how business on the routes was faring.
The Responsible Officer (RO) of Yaakrom Immigration Border, Mr. Thomas Afful said the closure of the border affected some traders but that was not the making of the president.
The Chief superintendent of the Ghana Immigration Service of the Dormaa West District, Mr. Tetteh Lomotey assured the DCE, that he and his men will do everything possible to ensure that the borders are well managed.
In his response, the DCE said he embarked on the tour based on the announcement by the president.
He said he was happy about the opening of the land borders since most of the Assembly's Internal Generated Fund (lGF) depends on the goods that come from a neighboring country like Cote D'Ivoire.
He urged the officers to always respect the rights of the people who ply the various borders.
