The Gaming Commission of Ghana has released a document ordering the operators of betting companies in Ghana to desist from using celebrities to entice customers.

The document clearly stated that going forwards, "operators shall not use celebrities in their advertisements to entice the general public to gamble.”

This confirms Wendy Shay's worst nightmare, who upon hearing the rumours of the ban, had called out to President Akufo-Addo to intervene and stop the potential loss of income for celebrities.

The Rufftown Records signee appealed to President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo- Addo on her Twitter page as she echoed the sentiments of her manager, Bullet, who had earlier condemned the government over the rumours of the potential ban.

She directly questioned the president on how he wants the celebrities to survive since most of them depend on the earnings obtained from these companies.

In the document that has been posted online, the Commission under Section 3 (2) (g) of the Gaming Act, 2006 (Act 721), states that “the purpose of these guidelines is to ensure that advertisements by operators are conducted in a responsible manner devoid of promises of any predetermined outcomes, appeals/enticements to Gamble to the vulnerable in society as well as minimise exposure to minors where applicable.”

Bullet had earlier complained abouthe unfavourable laws of non-interaction with alcohol and betting companies on labels.

The Chief Executive Officer of Rufftown Records outrightly threatened to move to Nigeria as the laws are keeping record labels from being successful in Ghana.

He specifically noted that there should be no laws that prevent record labels from endorsing alcoholic beverages and betting companies in Ghana.

"In a year or 2 there will be no record labels in Gh due to stringent/ heart-wrenching laws made by people occupying higher positions to collapse the creative arts 1st it was FDA, and now Gaming commission, I am moving Rufftown to Nigeria, if the gov’t doesn’t change these laws."

“Ghana is not a place to operate a record label business and this is very sad. Record labels do not make money from just shows where their artistes are billed to perform, majority of the money comes from endorsement deals. You people are always goofing with your laws. Do you guys have any idea of the devastating effects of COVID-19 on the creative arts.#theydontcareaboutthecreativearts,” he wrote.
