Wenchi MCE inspects Branam State farms

The Municipal Chief Executive Alexander Obour Damoah has paid a working visit to the Branam State Farms in the Wenchi Municipality. 

The purpose of the visit was to assess the state and condition of the Facility and take the necessary steps and actions to revamp it. At the time of the visit, it was observed that the facility was being partially utilized and managed by private developers. 300 acres of land were cultivated with soya beans.

It was also observed that the over thousand (1,000) hectare land facility was under-utilized as many buildings and other ancillary facilities were left under the mercy of the weather. Facilities such as Staff Accommodation/Quarters, Store Rooms, Storage structures, Warehouses, and other infrastructure for other purposes seemed to have been left to deteriorate at the expense of public interest. The National Service Secretariat (NSS) continue to use and manage part of the land for cultivation and renovated some of the warehouses.

In his remarks, the Municipal Chief Executive Alexander Obour Damoah expressed shock and grave concern about the dilapidated nature of the facility. He stated that the facility could not be left to deteriorate but be considered for maintenance to create jobs and income for the teeming masses. The MCE disclosed that the Municipal Assembly would collaborate with readily available private developers to revamp the facility to improve the agricultural sector in the Municipality. The Assembly has also planned to cultivate thousand (2,000) acres of maize using local labor intensive.

The move was part of efforts to revive and put into productive use all Agricultural Facilities in the Municipality to help improve the socio-economic life of the people. These facilities include the  Branam State Farms, Subinja Irrigation Scheme, Subinja Agric Project, Tomato Factory popularly known as Tomacan Company Ltd,  Ghana Commodity Exchange, Buffer Stock Company, Agric Research Station, and the Wenchi Agric College.

The Team led by the Municipal Chief Executive Alexander Obour Damoah was made up of the Municipal Coordinating Director Douglas N.K Annoful, Municipal Information Officer Stanick Sofel Amuzu Kpodo, Municipal Planning Officer Patrick Asomah, the Municipal Agric Officer Emmanuel Afful, Agric MIS Officer Alfred Anaman.
