Eighteen (18) persons living with disabilities (PWDs)  in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality have become beneficiaries of the District Assembly’s Common Fund.

The items disbursed included chest freezers, bags of charcoal, millet, beans, and sugar, manual and electric sewing machines, and an ice chest.

Other beneficiaries received various sums to pay for their education.

Speaking to the beneficiaries during the rather brief ceremony, the Senior Social Development Officer, Madam Cynthia Kwakye urged them to use the items with care, and for their intended purpose, since the said beneficiaries requested them.

The Acting Municipal Director, Hon. Nancy Petey also entreated the beneficiaries to not sell the items or mishandle them, as some past beneficiaries did.

Hon. Tina Gifty Naa Ayele Mensah, Member of Parliament (MP) and Deputy Health Minister advised them to put the items to good use for their economic emancipation.

She said disability is not inability.

Speaking to the media, the Municipal Chief Executive, Honorable. Patrick Brako Kumor said that everyone had a responsibility and a place in the nation and that persons with disabilities were not excluded.

He added that every quarter of the year, a new set of persons with disabilities would be added to the list of beneficiaries, to decrease the government-dependent population.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed their joy and thanked the government for extending a helping hand to the minorities in the Assembly.

They promised to put the items to good use for the betterment of their lives and that of the nation.

The presentations were done by the MP for the Weija-Gbawe constituency, Honorable Tina Naa Ayele Mensah, the Honourable MCE, and the Acting MCD.
