A retired educationist of the Ghana Education Service, J.K Debrah-Ussher has entreated teachers to use the nation's local languages to teach in schools.

Speaking to the media in an interview, Mr. Debrah argued that, the best way to improve the standard of education in the country is for teachers to use the country's local languages to teach students throughout the country.

According to him, if local languages are used in the teaching and learning process in the country, it will help students to grab the content of the curriculum very fast and will also enable parents and guardians who are not familiar with the dominant English language to assist their wards in learning at home.

The retired educationist further stated that, although there are many local languages in the various regions of the country, each has its dominant language, for this reason, teachers can use that dominant dialect to teach students.

He said countries such as Germany, India, Korea, Malaysia, and other developed countries use their native languages in the teaching and learning process and that is the main reason why they have overdeveloped.

Therefore if Ghana introduces a similar procedure, the nation will see rapid development.
