Fantana has claimed that female artists in the Ghanaian music scene do not get the attention that they deserve.

According to the Afrobeats star, if afforded the attention that they need, the female artists have the potential to drive the music forward locally and internationally.

She opined that some females artists have outstanding works that are better than their male counterparts but since the media did not pay attention to them, their works passed unnoticed.

“The female representation is improving in the industry but there is no doubt it is a male-dominated area but I feel like we are being held back despite our capabilities.

“We need to put our foot down and take what is ours because we have lots of good female artists out there and if people are not going to pay attention to us we have to get their attention by force.

“The attention is too much on male artistes which I think is not fair because people don’t judge male artistes for what they say unlike female artistes where everything you say would be scrutinized,”

This she said in an interview with GNA entertainment.

Fantana further argued that her colleagues need to encourage one another if they can hope to overcome the barriers placed in front of them.

"When I started I was a bit shy because I was new to the industry."

“I was put in the limelight very early and my career just took off. I sincerely didn’t know anything about stage performance but I just had to move together with the flow. But afterward, I took about eight months off the scene to better myself and work on my craft." She said.

He confession corroborates Vanessa Gyan's testimony, who had earlier stated that the obstacles placed in front of female performers is far more than the men experience.

“It’s like if you can’t offer something in a sexual way, you are pushed to the side. No matter how much talent you have, how educated you are or how creative you are, you are pushed to the side or you will be overlooked”.

“I am a creative person and no one is going to stop me. People will always see that and they see what I have to offer. I guess you can say in this industry even if I am not on TV or radio every day, I still make sure I am being seen and that is because I know who I am and what I am bringing to the table,” she concluded.
