WAN-Hive Ghana through its maiden Women Innovation Challenge initiative has supported three women-led startups to establish their business ventures from April 25, 2021.

The Women Innovation Challenge is an initiative by WAN-Hive Ghana to encourage young women participation in the application of acquired knowledge, skills and abilities to solve problems pertaining to the well-being of people and to develop the enthusiasm of entrepreneurship as a solution to unemployment.

The initiative is to help address unique difficulties women face when starting their business to help create jobs and contribute to the economic empowerment of women.

The Challenge was launched on October 16, 2020, with support from the Bono Region Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, the National Youth Authority in Bono Region, the Sunyani West Municipal Assembly, Yedent Agro Food Processing Company Ltd, Beksfel Constructions Limited, Groupe Ania, Golden Pillars Foundation, Fiapre Youth Association and other astute individuals.

At the Award Ceremony of the Women Innovation Challenge held in Sunyani, the Founder and CEO of WAN-Hive Ghana, Ms Janat Issifu reiterated the reason behind this initiative which was to encourage and support young women in establishing innovative startups to solve social problems, create jobs and reduce the unemployment rate among young women.

In her address, She mentioned that the Women Innovation challenge received over 210 business applications from young women across the country.

However, through a rigorous screening process, they were able to finalize 10 applicants who qualified for the Grand Finale.

She mentioned that applicants received business development training in Financial Management, Business Model Canvas, Basic Bookkeeping and Social Media Management.

Adding up, the CEO assured the winners of the organization's commitment and support to ensure the establishment and sustainability of their startups.

She stated that the three startups will be taken through an Acceleration program where they will receive free mentorship, tailored business development support, access to the market and free business advisory services.

In her concluding remarks, she called on public and private organizations, and individuals to come on board to support this initiative to create sustainable jobs for women and reduce unemployment. She added that in subsequent years, her organization will be awarding more women-led startups across the country.

The Ultimate Winner of the Women Innovation Challenge 2021 is Augusta Akyina Agyemang, Founder of Sucex Fruit Juice, Followed by Adade Mary the 1st Runner up and Founder of Marilyn Beads, Fatimata Abubakari became the 2nd Runner up of the Maiden Women Innovation Challenge and she is the Founder of Deep Clean Services.
