Coastal residents call on President to accelerate sea defense wall construction

Residents of Salakope, Amutinu, Agavedzi, and Adina in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta region have once again taken to the streets their grievances over the government’s delay in constructing sea defense wall in the area.

Residents in these communities have over the years experience the wrath of tidal waves, the menace has destroyed homes, properties and in some cases rendered some residents homeless.

For the second time in just about two months, these affected communities have thronged the streets and mounted roadblocks on the main Keta-Aflao road preventing vehicular movement on that stretch earlier today. 

The residents led by community leaders in the peaceful protest say the only way to put a stop to the destructions of the tidal wave is the government’s commitment to completing the sea defense wall.

Sylvester Kumawu is the Convener and Assemblyman for Salakope-Amutinu addressing the media after the demonstration indicates that many attempts to put stop to this menace yielded nothing hence the Government needs to as a matter of urgency intervenes.

He said, for many years now they continue to Shaffer this situation, and officials just keep on promising and failing them.

It is a high time the government comes to their rescue.
