Two million Malagasy in path of Cyclone Freddy

As Cyclone Freddy makes landfall in Madagascar's eastern region, at least two million people, according to the country's officials, would be impacted.

It is expected to affect nine locations across the nation, according to experts with the National Bureau of Risks and Catastrophes.

In the impacted areas, emergency workers are getting ready to deal with landslides, floods, and severe rainfall.

Experts predict that the cyclone's effects will be felt between the districts of Vatomandry in the southeast and Manakara on the east coast. The cyclone has been churning in the Indian Ocean for weeks.

It has been recommended that locals reinforce their doors and roofs, remove hazardous trees, and stay indoors during the tropical storm.

According to the World Food Programme, the island nation is one of the ten African nations most exposed to cyclones and disaster-prone.

Almost 30 people lost their lives and more than 40,000 were displaced from their homes when Cyclone Cheneso hit in January.
