The Minister for Tourism, Art and Culture, Mrs Barbara Oteng Gyasi has addressed on the need for Ghana to preserve its arts and culture for income creation and generation of jobs.

The Minister believes that if the national economy can benefit from tourism, it depends on the availability of investment to develop the necessary infrastructure and on its ability to supply the needs of tourists.

The Vice president of Ghana, Dr Muhamadu Bawumia on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, during his Ashanti Regional tour cut sword for the commencement of the Bonwire Kente Museum.

Mrs Barbara exposed that the approach is the start of something big to come for Bonwireman and people in the Ashanti Region.

“Today marks a special day in the history of Ghana. We know the great impact of Kente in Ghana’s economy. If the tourism sector can do well, it will depend on how our culture and other values are exhibited to attract foreigners," she said.

Mrs Barbara Oteng Gyasi speaking at the event emphasized that the huge benefit of tourism Ghana will empower the government in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism to put up initiatives that will promote international connections to increase business opportunities.

She revealed that the Ministry is instituting a smock village in the Northern Region, a Cocoa and Gold Museum at Mampong and the Western Region respectively to define Ghana's status worldwide and for a constant flow of income.

“The heart of the country rests on Bonwireman for the reason that the global African family rob themselves in Kente to identify that Ghana is their place of origin.

“Just recently, when the Police brutality rose in America which led to the death of George Floyd, the great people of American who holds Africa’s in high esteem branded themselves in rich Ghanaian kente during the Black Lives matter crusade. Their actions taught us the need to preserve our kente in order to unveil Ghana to the rest of the world,” she added.

She further publicized that cutting the sod for works on the Museum to start is a sign of hope that when the building is fully completed and starts serving the purpose, job opportunities will be created especially for the youth and investors of the trade. She pleaded to inhabitants to support the contractor; Precise limited in times of need.

“Today is the sod cutting of the Kente museum which will display the historical background of Asante Kente and will also help to define the role of the Weavers Association in order to provide room for foreigners to learn the history behind the trade.

“This will also sell the country to the outside world and will empower works and money here at Bonwire.”

The Bonwiremanhene Nana Bobie Ansah II, who chaired the program appealed to through the vice president to Nana Akudo Addo to help establish the Kente village to Bonwire.

He enlightened that $40 billion have been available for the building of a yarn factory promised by Exim Bank yet a guarantor required to help retrieve the money is missing. He pleaded unto Dr Bawumia to help recover the money for investment in the Kente trade.

“Exim bank assured us of creating Kente village here yet to no avail. We are also pleading to the president through the veep to assist us to build the yarn factory to uplift the Kente business at affordable prices.

“Leaders at Bonwire came out with a business plan to the government to be approved by 1d1f executives for an amount of $40bn. All we need is a guarantor to pledge their own assets as collateral for $40bn dollars to be released to us for the yarn factory.

“We believe the government will help us get this money to start the factory. This election is just a formality and I know very well that victory will surely be established,” he ended.
