It has emerged that the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Honourable Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa would  contest the upcoming NDC parliamentary primaries unopposed.

Information available to Soireeenews.com indicate that Mr. Okudzeto-Ablakwa popularly known as Togbe Worgbedzi was the only person who picked the nomination forms to contest the slot to go for his fourth term because no personalities are willing to contender since he has worked to the expectations to his constituents.

The situation has informed the decision of the North Tongu legislator to officially declare to go unopposed at the funeral rites of the late former Head Master of the Sogakope Senior High School, popularly called SOGASCO, Mr. Julius Edwin Aku Adzaklo at Mepe Traditional Area on Saturday February 25, 2013.

Mr. Okudzeto-Ablakwa made announcement in the funeral which was heavily attended by the seasoned politicians, teachers, religious leaders current and former students of Mepe Technical Institute, now Mepe ST. Kizito Senior High Technical School, academicians traditional office holders, students Senior High and Junior Highs School educationalists  educationalists and former District Chief Executives.

The Member of Parliament was accompanied by the North Tongu constituency Chairman, Mr C. K Akaho-Tay, Vice Constituency Chairman Adorboe Dominic, Kennedy John Gozey, Youth Organiser, Madam Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, Women Organiser, Wisdom Wilson Adzedakor, Deputy Communications Officer,  Edem Komla Bokor and Pius Amedzor Dabah all are Executive Members of the NDC in the constituency.

The team also includes the former Constituency Chairman, Francis Doe and former NDC North Tongu constituency Organsier Mr. Morrison Kwasi Dadagbor.

Among the tall list of dignitaries at the funeral were former Minister of Roads and Highways, who doubles as the former of Parliament (MP) Joe Kwashie Gidisu and Togbe Manklo of Mepe Traditional Area.

Mr Adzaklo laying in state and burial later in the day also attracted a large number of members of the Roman Catholic Churches, lawyers, educational sector value chain actors, ordinary people who had gone there to either mourn.

Almost the entire gathering welcomed Mr Okudzeto-Ablakwa with enthusiastic cheering similar to that heard at political rallies.

Deplorable road

Although residents of the Mepe, Aveyime and Battor who graced the occasion had showed great respect to their MP, expressed disgust about the poor road network in the community, for which they had even threatened to boycott the upcoming 2024 general elections if the government has refused to fix the deplorable road from Sege-Battor-Mepe stretch.


According to some residents who spoke with the Soireeenews.com, they believed the government would listen to their pleas for the road to be fixed and were disappointed that not much changed ahead of the funeral.

They appealed to President Akufo-Addo to honour the late Mr Adzaklo who doubles as the North Tongu Educational District Director  of Ghana Education Service (GES) with some infrastructural development in the town, such as fixing the deplorable Mepe-Battor-Abeyime-Sege road.

Mr Okudzeto-Ablakwa, described the Adzaklo as a unifier saying that he has been an advisor and consultant to lots of the interventions they had carried as a constituency, particularly in the educational sub-sector.

When he took the rostrum, North Tongu MP President recalled how the late Mr Adzaklo was very generous with his ideas.

According to the MP, the Late Adzaklo shared largest of wisdom and also put his vast experience that he has at the disposal of the constituency.

Mr Okudzeto-Ablakwa said the North Tongu and the government owed the late Adzaklo  an immense debt for his work and commitment.
