The Bono chapter of the Ghana Federation of Disables (GFP) is embarking on a project to identify children living with disabilities and are being hidden from society.

The exercise will also help to recognise children with disabilities who are not in school for assessment, counselling and placement.

According to the Bono Regional Vice President of the Federation Sirina Mahamadu, some parents opt to hide their wards living with disabilities at home because they are ashamed to see them outside.

"Some parents fail to take their children to school because they believe disabled children do not need education but we want to tell such parents that it is the right of every child to get an education," she said.

"We want all leaders in the county to support us in this endeavour. It is the right of every disabled child to gain access to education, and other skills that will enhance their self-development. The county government should also construct more schools to cater for special education," she added.

She however called on the general public to draw their attention if they identify such children in their communities.
