‘They don’t care about civilian lives’

Mohammed claimed that the financial system has also "shut down," making it more challenging for those who are already low on food and water to purchase more.

‘They don’t care about civilian lives’

According to a Sudanese resident of Omdurman who spoke with the BBC's Newsday radio program, the combatants at the center of the country's ongoing conflict "don't care about civilian lives."

Mohamed, who just used his first name, described himself as "angry" and asked when the violence would end.

Despite Wednesday night's expectations that both parties had reached an agreement on a ceasefire, he continued, "There is no ceasefire." He bemoaned the fact that combat had only stopped while Egyptian soldiers were being evacuated from Sudan and had started up again "as soon as they" had left.

He claimed that the majority of people in Sudan don't carry cash and instead rely on apps to make purchases, which has led to "another issue" for them.
