The Wenchi Circuit Court has jailed two armed robbers 17 years each.

The prosecution said on 7th May 2022 at about 8:00 pm, the complainant was returning to Atuna on his Apsonic Aloba motorbike with registration number M - 22 - BW 668 from Awisa, and on reaching a section of the road immediately after a sharp curve, he encountered a roadblock with branches of cashew tree and a log with the convicts signaling him to stop with torchlights.

The Wenchi Circuit Court has jailed two armed robbers 17 years each.

The robbers Kwaku Prince Nebenee 22, a meat seller at Awisa, and Waalong Columbus 19 also a farmer at Awisa near Wenchi on the 7th May 2022 robbed a man of his motorbike and cash of GH¢ 400.00 on the Awisa - Atuna feeder road near Wenchi in the Bono Region.

The two went through trial and were found to be guilty of the charges leading to their conviction.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Victor Samadzi narrated to the court presided over by His Lordship Justice Frederick Arnold Nawura, that on the 7th May 2022, the convicts armed with a machete attacked noel Bacho age 38-year-old farmer living at Atuna a village near Awisa in the Wenchi Municipality.

The complainant, Emmanuel Bacho age 38 years is a farmer and lives at Atuna a village near Awisa in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region.

The convicts Kwaku Prince Nebenee and Waalong Columbus also live in Awisa Zongo.

Complainant applied his brakes suddenly and he fell to the ground with the motorbike.

Convict Kwaku Prince Nebenee rushed on the complainant with a cutlass and strike him on the left cheek whilst Waalong Columbus demanded his money the prosecutor added.

He further explained to the court that Kwaku Prince Nebenee was about to strike the complainant again with the cutlass but he the ( complainant) latter blocked it with his right palm, the convicts succeeded in robbing him of his motorbike and cash of GH¢ 400.00 

Detective Chief Inspector Victor Samadzi again told the court that the complainant managed to get back to Awisa and informed the people of what befell him.

On the 8th May 2022, the Unit Committee Members of Awisa managed to arrest the convicts with the complainant's motorbike and handed him over to the Wenchi Police.

The convicts admitted the offenses in their caution statements and stated that they went to cut the log and branches around 6:00 pm on the 7th May 2022 for the operation, and after investigations, they were charged with the offenses as stated on the charge sheet and arraigned before the Wenchi Circuit Court for trial.

They pleaded guilty and were sentenced to run 17 years each concurrently to serve as a deterrent to the youth who want to indulge in such activities.
