The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has refuted allegations that he has granted Sarah Adwoa Safo, the MP for Dome Kwabenya, permission to leave Parliament.

Rt. Sumana Kingsford Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has denied reports that he has granted Sarah Adwoa Safo, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome Kwabenya, permission to be absent from Parliament.

MPs are not permitted to skip more than 15 sittings in a meeting without written permission from the Speaker or to quit their seats, according to the Constitution and Standing Orders.

Madam Safo has missed all 19 sittings of the 8th Parliament's second session since it began on January 25th.

As a result, there are calls for her position to be declared vacant under the constitution and standing orders.

However, news spread quickly on social media this morning that the speaker had given an interview in which he said that he had approved Madam Adwoa Safo's request to be excused from Parliament due to some illness.

The speaker told MPs on the floor that the allegation was false and that he will address the subject extensively in his formal letter to the house tomorrow.
