The Ashanti Regional Police Command on Monday, December 3, 2019 launched an ‘Operation Father Christmas’ with the objective of keeping traders safe to avoid falling in the hands of criminals in the festive season.

Kumasi, known to be a very industrious and demanding city especially during Christmas welcomes people from all hawks of life from villages and towns as they reach out to their love ones through acquiring foodstuffs, clothings and presents from market places for celebration.

The congestion created on the streets gives room for robbers to make life inconvenient for traders by means of pick-pocketing, duping and robbing.

According to the Regional Commander, COP Ampofo Duku, the security service have adopted new strategies to deal with criminals during and after the Christmas festivities.

“The Police have embraced certain approach to keep buyers and sellers safe ahead of the Christmas period. It is our duty to make sure that there is peace and tranquility in Kumasi even before and after the Christmas,” he said.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander disclosed that additional security personnel have been called from other Divisions and District to offer a helping hand in their quest to uphold serenity.

He addressed that the increase in road traffic in the capital city has led to the deployment of Police officers to assist them in managing the traffic system. Furthermore, checkpoints in various areas was communicated to be increased, as police patrol would be constituent.

“We have been provided with new cars purposely to increase our patrols in the city. The increase in our number will also permit us to create additional checkpoints. Though our activities would create lot of inconveniences yet we cannot put lives at risk and watch robbers take over the city.

“They (thieves) have their strategies as well therefore we have to avoid all this hence the launch,” he added.

He finally advised traders to stick to the Mobile money approach to avoid attacks.
