THE GOVERNMENT MUST SHOW MORE DESIRE TO PROTECT FOREST RESOURCES.

Mr. Gilbert Ampofo, the District Manager of the Kintampo Forest Division, has called on the government to show strong political will in combating illicit forest operations to conserve the country's forest resources.

Political meddling in illicit forestry concerns, such as chainsaw lumbering and logging, he added, was impeding the country's efforts to prosecute the perpetrators.

In an exclusive interview, the district manager stated that to handle illicit Forest operations, the government should provide strong law enforcement and political will, as well as minimize political influence.

He urged traditional rulers, particularly mountain chiefs, to stop following their kin who had been offended.

However, the Kintampo Forest Reserve has been reduced to ashes, with nearly seven hectares destroyed. The main causes include floaters, palm wine tappers, and smokers, among others.
