The Future Of Ghana Is Cashew - Dept Minister Of Agriculture

The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Honourable Yaw Frimpong Addo has revealed that the future of Ghana will soon depend on cashew production.

According to him, the Akufo Addo government has the interest to take the cashew business seriously, because of what it can generate for the country.

Honorable Yaw, therefore, assured cashew farmers of the government’s full support to make their business lucrative and attractive.

He made the remarks at the maiden Annual Conference held by the Progressive Cashew Association of Ghana at Techiman in the Bono East Region.

This year's conference dubbed; "Beyond the Traditional Cashew Farming and Exporting" brought together cashew farmers, buyers, exporters as well as stakeholders in the cashew industry from the sixteen regions of Ghana to deliberate on the way forward for the association.

Honorable Yaw Frimpong Addo asserted that cashew production contributes over three Billion Dollars to the economy annually.

The Deputy Minister said Government is solidly behind the farmers and would offer them the needed support.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Tree Crops Authority, Honourable Williams Agyapong Quaitoo said their mandate is to regulate and develop the cashew sector.

Mr. Quaitoo hinted the authority would soon pass a regulation to bind their operations.

Some of the members of the association lauded the issue of regulation and they said it will inure to their benefit.

The association was established three years ago to foster unity and development and also help farmers in the cashew industry in Ghana by way of advocacy and technical support.
