Hundreds of aggrieved youths calling itself La Concerned Youth Association of the Greater Accra Region have pointed accusing fingers at the Mankralo of La Shikitele, Nii Adjei Kofeh for being responsible for hatching the devil plan to dole out the Aviation Park land to a private developer.
The situation has angered the citizens of La to demonstrate on Tuesday January 4, 2022 to register their displeasure of the sale of the land.
Amidst singing of war songs and beating of war drums, the La youth stated that the said land in question serves as the only community park for social activities including football training for 10 Division one clubs in La.
“ The park is the only play ground for the community and 10 division one clubs use it including first and second cycle schools in la. Also government acquisition of the land will expire in 29 years but is has already been released and sold again to private developer rather than releasing it to the stool”, the Secretary of the group, Nii Odoi Assuman emphasized.
He added that in view of the crucial role of the Aviation Park in the lives of the youth, and the community at large, “it is highly insensitive and shameful on the part of the Authorities to wickedly trade the park for some few cedis”, he fumed.
He added “by the sale of the park the youth and the unborn generation would be denied a community park and they are likely going to be pushed into various vices”.
The group therefore petitioned the MCE of La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly (LADMA) to intervene and reverse what they described as illegal and greedy sale of the Aviation park.
For his part, MCE of LADMA, Hon. Solomon Kotei Nii Koi assured them that he will take an action on their petition.
“Thank you for your petition. I will engage the traditional council and the regional minister and get back to you.
Meanwhile a King maker of the La Traditional Authority, La Shikitele, Nii Adjei Kofeh explained to the media that the said land has been earmarked for redevelopment and that it was legitimately earmarked in consultation with the people and the traditional authorities.
He said the Traditional Authority built an astro-turf for the youth in the area in replacement of the park which he maintained used to be “ a den for drug users and criminals”.
Nii Kofeh called for calm and assured the youth that the elders will not take any decision that does not serve their interest.
