There is tension in the Bibiani township following the protest of the residents against the Electricity of Ghana (ECG) fraudulent tactics to over-bill them of the electricity power utility.
A couple of months ago, residents living in the Bibiani township, mainly Hwenampori, Gyedi, Estate, Ade3nkyee among others have been complaining bitterly about the ECG over-billing which is gradually getting out of hands.
The residents have, however, expressed worry about the development whilst others calling for swift actions from the authorities.
They expressed that some of the households have been billed to pay over seven hundred two thousand Ghana cedis a month for using few appliances, accusing the ECG staff of deliberately billing the innocent residents for their personal gains.
“How come we pay seven hundred cedis a month? What at all are we using in our various homes? This is very hilarious and the most annoying part is that the officials at the station have shown no concern’’, they stated.
Moreover, a man who spoke to the media on anonymity threatened to curse the ECG staff, adding he used to pay twenty cedis monthly but now paying about five hundred Ghana cedis. Meanwhile, there has not been any change in his utilities.
“I will storm the ECG office with my Schnapp and eggs to curse them since they are not ready to reduce the bills. This is intention because the increment is too much. How come someone who used to pay only fifty cedis has to pay five hundred cedis within a month? We are calling on the authorities to come in or we shall dirty ourselves in their office”.
He said’’,they kept attributing the problem to poor wiring meanwhile we can see it’s a deliberate attempt to extort money from us, we will not kowtow to such unlawful from them."
The authorities of the ECG in the municipality were not ready to comment on the development as at the time of filing the report and would update our readers.
