After stopping a minibus taxi carrying 21 sheep they suspect to be stolen, South African police detained a guy.

The bus ran out of fuel as the passengers were traveling from Kuruman in the Northern Cape, where the livestock was reportedly taken, according to early investigations, they claimed

A police squad doing a weekend traffic patrol saw the stalled car.

The 43-year-old man was left behind by two people as they fled the scene, the South African Police Service said in a statement on Monday.

"Upon approaching the vehicle for inquiries, the police saw two individuals fleeing from the scene," it added.

According to the police, the suspect was detained after he was unable to account for his ownership of the sheep, and the car was seized.

They said investigations were underway as the suspect was due to appear in court on Monday.
