Female convict begs Akufo-Addo for pardon

A 25-year-old prisoner at the Ho Female Prison who poured acid on her boyfriend during a dispute is losing her sight as a result of the burns she received and has made an appeal to President Akufo-Addo for mercy.

Gloria Pearl Atigah, besides having worsening impaired vision, is unable to blink and must sleep with her eyes open.

A Sogakope court gave her a five-year prison sentence in February 2022 for pouring sulfuric acid in her ex-face boyfriends as retaliation for cheating on her.

Gloria admitted culpability for harming others during the trial, and she was found guilty based on her admission.

After undergoing surgery, her partner (name withheld), who took the brunt of the acid, is back to work as a surveyor.

The convict’s mother paid for the surgery.

When Gloria visited her boyfriend in Sogakope, in the Volta Region, he allegedly accused her of infidelity. Gloria is a first-year senior at a senior high school in Adeiso, in the Eastern Region.

She then drove as far as Nsawam to purchase the acid before returning to Sogakope to splash her partner with it.

As a result of the ensuing battle, some of the jar's acid spilled onto Gloria's face, causing burns to her eyes and other areas of her face.

Last Tuesday, when The Mirror visited Herria expressed regret for her actions and asked that they be conveyed to the President. I deeply regret what occurred.

She also apologized to her boyfriend and begged for his pardon.

Gloria, who has served five months of her sentence, now always wears sunglasses due to her condition.

Periodically, she is sent by the prison guards to the Ho Teaching Hospital for care and evaluation.

She expressed a desire to finish high school and pursue a career as a nurse.

In the sight of the prison officials, Gloria gave The Mirror permission to photograph her scarred face for publication and thanked them for their unfailingly kind care of her.
