Tarkwa-Nsuem Road Block Today As Commuters and Passengers Stranded On the Highway.

The commuters and passengers plying the Tarkwa Agona Nkwanta road in the Western Region were on today Wednesday, July 12, 2022, left stranded for more than 3 hours after heavy-duty vehicles and some commercial buses got stuck on both ends of the road.

As a result of that, traffic came to a halt at Wassa Agona, a suburb of Tarkwa-Nsuem, around 6:00 hours today where the vehicles were stuck preventing vehicular movement on the road.

A similar situation yesterday happened on the same stretch frustrating drivers and passengers at that instant.

Due to the situation, workers including nurses, teachers, workers from the mining companies, and commuters among others were seen walking on the muddy road to their destination for work and other places.

The Tarkwa Agona Nkwanta road has been in a deplorable state and several portions of the road are riddled with life-threatening routes, making traveling on it a nightmare experience at this time of the season.

The one-hour journey from Takoradi to Tarkwa has now become an agonizing state which now takes two and a half to three hours to complete that journey.

The drivers explained that they have to carefully meander their way through these routes or risk damaging their vehicles. Not a day goes by without reports of vehicles breaking down, capsizing, or somersaulting on the road, they said.

Today's occurrence was a result of heavy-duty trucks coming from Tarkwa getting stuck in one of the routes while an articulated truck from the Agona Nkwanta direction also broke down, all at Wassa Agona.

Some travelers who got to Wassa Agona around that time could not travel further. All vehicles using the route were stranded.

Within minutes, looking at the situation, the long tailback stretched for more than three kilometers as hundreds of vehicles could not move in the traffic jam on the road.

Some of the commuters registered their displeasure over the situation and asked why the road has been left to deteriorate looking at how it serves the towns and communities in the region.

Some of the drivers and passengers make a special appeal to the government as a matter of urgency to come to their aid to rehabilitate the road for the people.
