Tanzanian lawmakers have been cautioned not to remove any clothing while in the chamber.

Tanzania MPs warned not to undress in parliament

After MP Mwita Waitara removed his jacket and tie during a debate, Speaker Tulia Ackson warned the audience.

During a contentious discussion about compensation for his constituents who had been displaced by mining, he lost his cool and stormed out of the room.

Ms. Ackson was more concerned with the violation of the parliamentary dress code, which mandates formal attire in the chamber, than the manner in which he left.

He had taken off his jacket and tie, which she called "undisciplined".

"This conduct is not acceptable in the House of Representatives, and it should never occur again. Go outside to calm down if you're upset, Ms. Ackson advised.
